Negotiating and Managing Property Leases: understand the ins and outs of your premises lease to help your organisation thrive, Tuesday 3rd October, Anthony Collins Solicitors, 134 Edmund Street, Birmingham B3 3UB
Workshop 10am – 1pm
Confidential property advice clinic until 3.30pm
Taking on a lease of business premises is a big commitment for a small charity or community organisation and its trustees who could find themselves personally liable. Whether entering into a new lease or taking over existing lease, it is important to understand the main provisions of a commercial lease and to be clear on your obligations going forward.
This means looking critically at what is on offer with respect to its cost and the risk that it presents to the charity. Charity trustees must ensure that the charity gets value for money; that any expected costs can insofar as practicable be estimated; and that any risks are manageable. This is not always easy when negotiating leases, as both the initial negotiations and the final document can be complicated.
This will be an opportunity for participants to identify the most common property issues and risks within a lease; understand how property can better meet the needs of their charitable aims and services, and how to plan for the future and mitigate against financial loss at the end of the lease.
There will also be an opportunity to book a one to one confidential 20 minute session after the workshop to discuss a specific property lease issue.
Sandwich lunch provided.
