Our annual conference held on Thursday, November 12th 2015 and jointly organised with SCVO was a great success!
In joining up with Sandwell’s Meet the Funder 2015 CTWM was able to celebrate its 40th year of existence and share it with a wide range of charities and voluntary and community organisations who operate in the West Midlands.
The conference and funding fair was an great opportunity to share and learn from each others experience and perspective of grant giving and develop good practice in grant making; explore matters of common concern, and forge productive relationships that contribute to the wider benefits and overall sustainability of the region’s voluntary and community sector.
The day offered the opportunity to learn about the priorities and procedures of seeking grants from a variety of funding agencies. Attendees learnt about the changing landscape that VCS are having to operate in led by a panel of speakers made up of Karl Wilding, NCVO, Melanie Mills, Big Society Capital, Melinda Connelly, BBC Children in Need and Tina Costello, Heart of England Community Foundation. Interesting discussions were held on the growth in alternative sources of funding, such social investment products, given by Simon Thorrington, Charity Bank. Emma Prest, Datakind UK spoke of the growing importance of using data collected by organisations using the skills of data scientists to inform future work priorities and direction. Members of CTWM held closed discussions on working together for change: how can trusts collaborate more effectively in a time of shrinking resources. We also looked at some of the key policy drivers and third sector trends and how these might impact on the trusts deploy their resources in the future. Several issues and topics will feature in CTWM’s future roundtable discussions and seminars to be organised over the next year.
Finally, we must give thanks to Charity Bank for sponsoring the event.
